Brands in Bollywood

While Hollywood is flaunting all kinds of product placements, Bollywood is catching up with a rapid speed. It has come a long way from using a product in a movie unconsiously to mentioning brand partners in the titles. Here is a snapshot of Bollywood.

The practice of product placement has started a little earlier than usually we imagine in case of Bollywood. In the 1955 movie named ‘Shree 420’, a big banner of Coke was visible in one of the scenes. A 1967 movie, ‘An Evening in Paris‘ showcased Cocacola with the protagonist. Rajdoot motorcycle was featured in ‘Bobby‘. However, the 1999 film ‘Taal’ played the same role in Bollywood that E.T. played in Hollywood. Indian audience became aware of the practice of product placement after that movie.

Today, its is a bigger industry than most people imagine. My future blogs will speak more and more about the product placement in Bollywood.
